16-05-2026 Special Moment: First Flamingo Chick Has Hatched
The arrival of the first flamingos, the group settling once again in the marsh, the choosing of partners and nesting sites — these are special moments every year during the breeding season at the Zwillbrock Venn.
The flamingos, each with their own character and role within the group, remain fascinating to observe. But in the end, the breeding season revolves around one thing: the chicks. That moment remains exciting and remarkable every single time. Will they breed successfully, and will chicks hatch? As mentioned in the previous update, another important phase had begun.
Today, May 16th, the moment finally arrived: the first chick has been observed. A Phoenicopterus roseus successfully hatched a chick in the middle of the breeding colony. From a distance of approximately 250 meters, it was possible — with some effort — to witness a healthy chick experiencing its very first moments in this world.
Quite special, isn’t it?
