Hotel Kloppendiek

03-06-2026 Right in the Middle of the Breeding Season

The Zwillbrocker Venn is once again a wonderful place to visit. With the first flamingo chicks now hatched, the breeding season is in full swing. Many visitors are eager to catch a glimpse of the fluffy young birds and experience this unique natural spectacle.

Over the past few days, temperatures have reached as high as 30°C. As a result, the landscape is visibly changing in colour and character. Fortunately, there is still plenty of water available for the flamingos and the many other animals living in the reserve.

The rest of the wildlife is equally active. The cuckoo can be heard throughout the area, redstarts are frequently spotted, and roe deer are appearing more often. In addition, several fascinating waterbirds can be seen, including little grebes, black-necked grebes and the colourful ruddy shelduck.

For dedicated birdwatchers, the golden oriole remains one of the highlights. Its beautiful song can often be heard, but actually spotting this striking bird remains a challenge. That is exactly what makes every sighting so special.

Whether you choose to walk or cycle through the nature reserve, you will find plenty of peaceful spots, benches and viewpoints where you can stop and enjoy the scenery.

After your visit, you are warmly welcome to relax on the terrace of Hotel Restaurant Kloppendiek, located right in the heart of nature. Enjoy a coffee, lunch, dinner or a refreshing drink while taking in the beautiful surroundings.

Will you be visiting the Zwillbrocker Venn soon and experience this unique breeding season for yourself?
